Do your staff provide energy advice to clients or tenants?

During this current cost of living crisis, more and more households urgently require guidance on how to keep warm in their home while saving money on energy bills. This course will allow your staff to have a greater understanding of domestic energy efficiency, which in turn will allow them to provide the best and most up to date advice to your clients and tenants.

Who should attend

The course is for people ​​who provide energy advice to households, either face-to-face or over the phone.

The course is split into three modules covering:

Heating and Preventing Heat Loss

  • Efficient use of heating and hot water systems
  • Effective use of heating controls
  • Understanding heat loss from buildings
  • Methods of home insulation
  • Renewable energy in the home

Lifestyle and Housekeeping

  • Fuel poverty, health and wellbeing
  • The causes and control of condensation and dampness
  • The importance of adequate ventilation
  • ‘No and low cost’ energy saving measures
  • Health risks arising from the lack of affordable warmth

Finance and Budgeting

  • Understanding tariffs, meters and budgeting for energy
  • Comparative costs and system efficiencies
  • The cost of running household appliances
  • Payment methods for fuel
  • Services from fuel and energy suppliers and consumer bodies
  • Grants and financial help available for energy efficiency improvements and fuel payments

Course details

How you will study

The course is available online and comprises self-directed learning.

We offer weekly online ‘support sessions’, and we recommend candidates attend as many of these sessions as possible, allowing them to ask any questions they may have.

Course duration

We recommend that candidates spend at least 25-30 hours studying the course materials.

Exam

The exam will also take place online. The exam is Open Book and split into two parts.After an exam date has been agreed, you will be given a date and time for a one-to-one simulation which will take place online. Once you have completed and passed this, you will be sent a link to the written papers. You will then have 14 days to complete and submit the papers.
